Thoughts While ShavingToday is July 1st, the beginning of a huge weekend and week in the area.

The Annual July 4th Sidewalk Sale begins today in Elizabethtown, and the July 4th Fireworks will be held Monday at dark-thirty (about 9 p.m.) from Goldston’s pier at White Lake. Admission is free.

Summer Jams concert at White Lake kicked off last night at Goldston’s Beach, sponsored by Southeastern Healthcare and the Chamber of Commerce.

The Sounds of Summer Concert Series will be held the second and fourth Thursdays in July and August at the Cape Fear Farmer’s Market in Elizabethtown. The concerts are free.

Be safe, one traffic fatality has already been recorded in Bladen over the past few hours, (see article on news page) and one is to many.  Please, please, do not drink and drive.  If you do and if you are arrested, the July 4th, 2016 holiday may become a bad memory.

Fire up the grill, invite the neighbors and enjoy the holiday.

Think back, is there a July 4th holiday that stands out in your mind?

The youngsters, and hopefully their families, continue to enjoy this summer baseball season.  I know…it’s been hot.

Some of our churches have already held Vacation Bible School, others are planned.  Time to sign up.

You can’t expect people to look eye-to-eye with you if you are looking down on them.

Don’t ask God to guide your footsteps if you’re not willing to move your feet.

We can’t always build the future for our youth, but we can build our youth for the future.  Franklin D Roosevelt
