Thoughts While Shaving
Spread the love

Thought I heard the sound of heavy rain overnight, and I was correct … Based on info from the National Weather station at the Curtis Brown Airport, between 1 & 2 a.m., today, nearly 2.5 inches of rain was recorded … and as of nearly 5 a.m., a light rain continued…

The forecast for today (Saturday) … A slight chance of showers, then a a chance of showers and thunderstorms after noon. Mostly sunny, with a high near 93. Heat index as high as 101. Southwest wind around 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

One of my most faithful readers and dear friends sent me an email recently that someone had shared with him … How many of the following do you remember … Several items related to older model vehicles … ‘Kewl additions’

Fender Skirts, curb feelers’, steering knobs, Continental Kits (they were attached to the rear bumper to make any old car look like a Lincoln Continental), Emergency brakes … or some may remember as parking brakes…

The accelerator was a ‘foot feed’, remember the ‘clutch’ and when the dimmer switch was on the floor … some starters were in the same area … Many autos had a ‘running board’…

Most were extras for the ‘hot rod’ … Other terms from long ago … ‘store bought’ … like a store bought dress and ‘coast to coast’ … ‘wall to wall’ … and a female expecting a child, she was in a ‘family way’ … and we went to a ‘picture show’ (movie). A ‘rat fink’ was a low down, put down of someone. Made coffee in a ‘percolator’…

Other words in the early years include ‘Dyna Flow’, ‘Electrolux’ and ‘Frigidaire’ … (a vacuum cleaner and refrigerator) … Remember lumbago?, how ’bout castor oil’????…

Familiar items … and terms from long, long ago…

Much obliged for sharing…

Remember…

“Doesn’t amount to a hill of beans”

“I’ve got a bone to pick with you”

“A little bird told me” and one more … “going to see someone about a dog”
