CONGRATULATIONS to the Elizabethtown Dixie Youth AAA Minors team. They swept a doubleheader yesterday (Friday) over previously unbeaten Stanly by identical 6-4 scores to win the state championship and will advance to the nationals in Louisiana, first time since 1982, I am told … 37 years ago. The tournament was played in Dunn.

And there is more, more tournament action involving local teams, including one beginning play today in Clarkton. Check our Sports page for updates.

Understand the new state champs were met by locals and led into town in a parade type entrance by parents, friends, and dignitaries.

Now, no doubt fundraisers will be held to assist the team financially as they make plans for the national tournament.

It will take a team effort by the locals to make it happen, and it will happen.

Congratulations to the team, coaches, parents and other supporters, enjoy.

So what’s on your agenda today?

Summertime 2019 is moving fast … no doubt lots of attention to Dixie Youth play, boys and girls action, and high school football practice will begin in two or three weeks, usually the final days of July or first few days of August.

The more restaurants come to town, the bigger the crowd, at old and new.

Sidewalk sale continues this weekend, and filing for municipal elections ends next Friday.

State lawmakers and the governor exchanging ideas on a budget, due July 1st. And, at the national level, just another day of confusion.

Summer: Hair gets lighter, skin gets darker, water gets warmer, drinks get colder, music gets louder, nights get longer, life gets better.
