A reminder of the 5th Annual Desmond Bryant Football Camp scheduled for Saturday at East Bladen High School. It’s a free camp for youngsters from ages 6-18 and it begins at 8:30 AM. Registration begins at 8 AM. For more info, call 910-872-4470.
Bryant is an East Bladen and Harvard University grad. He signed with the Oakland Raiders after his college day, played there a few years before signing a $34 million five-year contract with the Cleveland Browns in 2013. He has posted impressive numbers with both teams. Bryant begins his 4th year in Cleveland this year.
And, while on sports topics, West Bladen’s pre-major team lost to East Columbus, 4-3, dashing hopes for a fourth consecutive NC State Championship and the Bladen County Dixie Boys team plays this evening in Southport. Their opponent will either be Kings Mountain or Dallas.
How about the stock market? Several very good days, impressive gains after a disastrous beginning in January. Investors, including retirees depending on 401Ks, should have regained early year losses.
Time for presidential contenders to name their running mates, followed by national conventions. No hope for cooler weather for a few days with all the hot air coming out of Cleveland and Philadelphia.
Do you ever adjust to July temps? I give thanks everyday and remind myself…I do not have to crop tobacco today and for that, I am thankful.
