Weather continues to be big news … flood in portions of Bladen yesterday, especially around White Lake, zero to a few tenths in other areas. Extremely hot weather forecast for the next few days … temps in the 90s, heat index in triple digits. Plan accordingly.

Celebration continues for Elizabethtown Dixie Youth baseball team preparing for national championship tournament in Louisiana. GoFundMe site set up to assist with expenses for the trip. Another state tournament underway in Clarkton. Check our Sports page for all the action.

Reminder, again, just one more week to sign up as a candidate for municipal elections. As usual, not a great deal of interest. Filing fee is just $5. Details available at the Bladen County Board of Elections, Cypress Street, Elizabethtown, behind the Post Office.

Remember attending Vacation Bible School as a youngster, maybe as an adult working with youngsters? I do remember as a youngster … lessons learned that have lasted a lifetime. Some churches schedule early, some later. VBS begins at Wesley’s Chapel UMC, Peanut Plant Road near Elizabethtown, this evening, 6 p.m. All are welcome.
