Thoughts While Shaving

Checking the weather forecast for the weekend … Looking good for July … High today (Friday), Saturday and Sunday in the low 90s … no rain in the forecast for today, picks up to 30% on Saturday. Best chance for rain is Sunday, at 50%. New rainfall amount for today … 0 … less than a tenth Saturday and ’bout the same Sunday. Higher amounts, if a thunderstorm passes our way.

A good lake or beach kind of a weekend. Incidentally, highs in the low 90s in the forecast for every day through next Thursday…

Bladen County tax notices have arrived for some and for others, in the mail, or will be shortly.

I was in the National Guard for 6 years … weekend warriors, plus a two week visit to Fort Stewart, Georgia, annually … hot, hot, hot … thought about that recently, and the thing that stands out was the training on 40 and 50 caliber weaponry … and my buddies and our leaders and very hot weather … Good days, but not in any big hurry to add to those days…

As I aged, I enjoyed coaching Little League baseball in Elizabethtown. Still have most of the record books from those days … I wonder how they are all doing … Most will soon be eligible for retirement …. Good group, fun time, but it was hot, hot … typical May and June, season was usually over in June, maybe early to mid July, depending how far we advanced in All-Star competition.

What remains are memories, thoughts of yesteryear … Wouldn’t trade a minute … would do it all over again … if I were in my 20s and 30s.

This year, no summertime activity due to virus … Remember last year, a couple of Bladen County teams played in the national finals in their age group … Maybe next year … I hope so for the sake of all.

Just ramblin’…

“I love how summer just wraps its arms around you like a warm blanket.” Kellie Elmore

“May we think of freedom, not as the right to do as we please, but as the opportunity to do what is right.” Peter Marshall

“We have to do the best we are capable of. This is our sacred human responsibility.” Albert Einstein
