I seldom purchase a MegaMillions ticket, and for the record I have never won a dime playing that game … My mom, God bless her soul, would be disappointed if she knew I bought a ticket … I participated with a small purchase … and, again, nothing to show for it … And, yes, I tithe … Do occasionally purchase a PowerBall ticket … covered the cost one time … $10, five – $2 chances … won $10.
Attended a retirement party Friday for Sonny Jones, who has been very active with BladenOnline for sometime … writing, placing others articles online and soooo much more. He retired from an area paper a couple of years ago, and says he is stepping down again at the end of July … Wish him well, actually hope he misses it so much that he can’t stay away … More later…
Sonny came to Bladen County long ago, accepted a job as a DJ at WBLA, when he was young … Spent his early days at Cole’s Motel, soon involved in coaching youngsters … later had a job with The Bladen Journal, covering local sports … Then, years later, met a former Clarkton female basketball player and ‘settled-in’ for life … and we are so fortunate … A small group shared tales of the early days recently … included, but not limited to … John Clark, Norgie Hester, Charlotte Smith, spouses and an additional friend or two, and myself … It was fun … Hope we can do it again … sometime in the future…

The Barracuda Championship PGA event continues today in California. 23-year-old Ryan Gerard of Raleigh, a UNC grad, is the leader after 2 rounds (now resides in Florida) … 44-year-old William McGirt is tied for 23rd with rounds of 69 & 67. If my memory is correct, it is hIs first, maybe the 2nd time, making the cut two weeks in a row since health issues sidelined him a few years ago (could be wrong) … He is a Fairmont native, now living in South Carolina, and has winnings over $11 million in his years on the PGA tour. Play continues today and tomorrow, telecast on GOLF Channel from 5 p.m – 8 p.m.
