Thoughts While ShavingIt’s Monday … all over again. Hope your weekend was good…

I am a country music fan … 60s, 70s, 80s music … Played many records, country, Top 50s rock and gospel at WBLA, years ago … Occasionally, I will see an old interview from the past … Enjoyed one Sunday night … Ralph Emery was a Nashville DJ, a Grand Old Opry MC … long string of accomplishments … Later, a TV show … interviewing interesting personalities … Now a series of re-run interviews on Sunday night … Last night his guest (recorded years ago?) was country musician Gene Watson … Great interview … Watson recorded ‘Farewell Party’, ‘Build My Mansion’, ‘Paper Rose’s'(?) and many more … Brought back so many wonderful memories … He grew up … ‘dirt poor’ in Texas, great family … mom, dad and siblings … and for sometime as a youngster, family lived in a renovated old school bus … moved often wherever there was work … slept, mom cooked in the bus … and usually parked near a country store, for convenience purposes, overcame numerous health related issues, including cancer … Thought about sharecroppers, years ago, in rural Bladen County…

MacKenzie Gore had one of his best outings ever as a major league player … The young Columbus County native pitched 5 strong innings for the Washington Nationals against the San Francisco Giants yesterday (Sunday) … no runs, 5 hits … the Nationals won 6-1 … Another win for Gore, good for the ego … His record improves to 5-7, with an ERA of 4.59, and if my memory is correct, he recorded 8 KOs. Playing with a team at, or near, the bottom of the standings…

So much for the past … It’s Monday … just a week left for July, 2023 … HOT, HOT, HOT weather … and more on the way…

A thunderstorm just before midnight last night produced over a half-inch of rain at the local weather station … (0.66 inches)…

And, we have a 40% chance of more rain today … mainly after 1 p.m. Partly sunny with a high near 88 degrees.

Tonight, mostly cloudy, with a low around 71. Tuesday, a slight chance (20%) of showers and thunderstorms after 2 p.m. Partly sunny with a high near 93 … heat index values as high as 102.

Sunny and hot thru Sunday with highs in the mid 90s … I know…

So, what are your plans?

Spent a little time at the lake yesterday … ‘No diving-in’ … Water level is down … way down … Still, a huge crowd … Local retail outlets love that … as well as the lake folks.

A week from tomorrow … August arrives … begin preparing for fall activities…

“Keep your face always towards the sunshine and shadows will fall — behind you” Walt Whitman

“Every day may not be good, but there is something good in every day.”

“You will never know how strong you are until being strong is the only choice you have.”
