Thoughts While Shaving

July 4th weekend, folks on the move, many feeling homebound, shut-up for a while, more people traveling than at any time in over the past 18 to 24 months … hopefully all using good common sense, looking for a few days to relax, spend time with family and friends … Sometimes we forget, some are determined to ‘text and drive’ … Time for patience … Hopefully it will be a safe, fun, weekend…

As youngsters, as share-croppers, we were busy, the whole family doing chores, ‘cropping tobacco’, lady folks and the younger ones ‘stringing tobacco’. I realize many never heard of such a thing … Maybe a get-together as a youth group at church and have a ‘social’, roast hot dogs, maybe marshmallows … That was fun, but hot…

Few had air-conditioning, only a few hand-held fans provided by the funeral home, or a local retail outlet that passed them out … Things are different now…

We are a blessed nation … Give thanks…

Many will be at White Lake, some involved in sports with youngsters … A reminder of the fireworks at the lake Sunday, 9 p.m.

Some will be shopping at the sidewalk sale in downtown Elizabethtown…

Perfect July 4th weather forecast … Sunny today with a high near 86. Clear tonight, with a low around 63. Sunny on Independence Day, with a high near 91 … and clear Sunday night with a low around 66…
