Today is July 4th, Independence Day … a national holiday. Fireworks, cook-outs, time for a visit to White Lake or the beach, maybe the mountains. Millions on the roads, be safe.

Annual Sidewalk Sale continues in Elizabethtown. If you were in Elizabethtown around noon yesterday, looking for a burger or other type snack, you probably discovered the lines were a little longer. And, more visitors than locals, and all are welcome.

Expect more of the same today. Enjoy, there is room for all.

Fireworks this evening at White Lake, about 9 p.m. or shortly after.

Filing for municipal elections begins noon Friday, July 5th. Filing fee is $5 for the non-partisan election. If you are interested in running for mayor or city council from East Arcadia to Tar Heel, best to visit or call the Bladen County Board of Elections. There is new board leadership at the state and local level. All are competent, but with little or no on-the-job experience. The filing deadline is noon Friday, July 26. The Bladen County Board of Elections is located at 301 Cypress Street, behind the Elizabethtown Post Office.

Nothing more interesting than serving the public, trust me.
