Bladen is a busy place!

Dixie Youth action continues and more is on the way. John Clark has it all covered on our Sports page.

A reminder, a new tournament will be played beginning this weekend at the Clarkton Dixie Youth Baseball Complex. It’s the Dixie Youth Majors D2 State Tournament, and all are invited to attend, enjoy the action and greet visitors to Bladen. Action begins with Opening Ceremonies 7 p.m. Friday. Games begin Saturday at 10:30 a.m.

Christmas in July, sponsored by Bladen County Extension and Community Assistance, will be held Friday, July 12 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Powell-Melvin Ag Center. Enjoy a salad lunch for $5, rent a booth for $10. Call Linda Rivenbark for more info. Her number is 910-647-0572.

Bladen County DHHS is collecting school supplies for students who are living with their grandparents and may need a little extra help for the 2019-2020 school year. Supplies may be delivered to the Bladen County Division of Aging, the Department of Social Services, and the Bladen County Health Department between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 5 p.m., now through Friday, July 19.

The Bladen County Division of Aging is sponsoring a program on Dementia, to be held at their office Friday, July 26 from 2-3 p.m. Space is limited, need to pre-register. Call 910-872-6330 for details and to register.

And, Major Larry Guyton is retiring as Chief Deputy at the Sheriff’s office and Mac Warner will be the new Chief. Congratulations to both.

Filing continues for upcoming municipal elections at the Bladen County Board of Elections.

It is a busy time in Bladen, and no doubt, there are more events throughout the area.

Do not corner something that you know is meaner than you.

It doesn’t take a very big person to carry a grudge.

Every path has a few puddles.

You cannot unsay a cruel word.
