Thoughts While Shaving
Spread the love

Thoughts While ShavingBaby, It’s Hot Outside!  Was that the title of a song?  Not sure about the song, but summer officially arrives Thursday, June 21. (Maybe the song was, “Baby, It’s Cold Outside”).

Remember Holsum bread? For years, fresh bread either came from Merita or Holsum.  Both still available, I am told, depending on the location.

How about Prince Albert smoking tobacco in the metal cans?  Smith Bros. cough drops?  Chocolate covered raisins?  Not sure.

And neck bones, folks bought them by the peck in a brown bag, complete with rice bits.  Could feed a big family, a little meat, and very greasy.  Doubt it would be a favorite of any group promoting healthy eating, but it was filling.

Sorry, lost in my own world.  I worked at a Bladenboro locally owned and operated grocery store during my high school days and a year or so after.

Ever feel you are ‘up to your neck’ in political news?  I swapped the 24-hour networks for Politico, a daily update of, more news than I need.  Attempted to determine the leaning of the publication.  Wikipedia quoted one conservative watchdog group who accused Politico of having ‘a Republican tilt’ and another politically conservative group claimed it had a ‘pronounced’ liberal bias. Whatever, it’s my source of news, for now.  I ‘skim it’ daily.

Remember the annual meeting of the local Chamber of Commerce this evening.  It is at Lu Mil at 6:30 PM.

2018 Sunset Jams Concert series begins Thursday at Goldston’s Beach, White Lake and features ‘Imitations’.  All free, courtesy of the Chamber.  Oh yes, sponsors are still needed for later Sunset Jams concerts.  Contact Dawn Maynard  for more information.

Without community service, we would not have a strong quality of life.  It’s important to the person who serves as well as the recipient.  It’s the way in which we grow and develop.  Dorothy Height

I’d rather to community service than sit and write a load of cards.  Paul O’Grady
