All baseball fans know that Willie Mays, maybe the best center fielder of all time, died a couple of days ago … If not the best, amongst them … Bladenboro pitcher Vic Davis was a rookie pitcher with the Giants, many years ago. His brother Richard shared a newspaper clipping (San Francisco paper, spring training). In the article, quoting “Rookie Vic Davis was praised Friday” … probably in the late 1950s or early 60s … quote in paper.”He struck out Willie Mays on three pitches.” One more Vic story … He was a high school senior working on throwing a knuckleball … I was a freshmen, Bladenboro PE class … Coach told me to catch him for my PE class … I was near a ditch beside the old Bladenboro gym. The pitches I missed, I retrieved from the ditch … Vic played in the Giants organization and Richard with the Cubs organization … a looooong time ago…

Vic later played for the Bladenboro Spinners … Sadly, he passed away several years ago…
