Bladen County Commissioners will hold a Community Meeting in Kelly on Thursday, 7 p.m. at Centerville Baptist Church to provide an update on information related to the White Oak Dike Levee System. County commissioners and members of the Kelly Dike District Committee are expected to attend. All are to be commended in attempting to ‘work through’ the issues that allowed flooding to cause millions of dollars of damage last year. The meeting is open to the public.

Some of my best memories are of Little League Baseball playoffs … long, long ago. (Now Dixie Youth) Team members, coaches, parents and supporters have the pleasure of playing or cheering for the locals in unbearable heat, making memories never to be forgotten. Reminds me of football players, coaches and supporters who are still playing at Thanksgiving, it’s been a very good year. … Same could be said about Dixie Youth Baseball this time of year.

The ‘can do spirit’ is still alive by some in the Bladenboro area, despite flooding over the past couple of years that devastated the town. Will be interesting to watch as efforts unfold.

If you, a family member or a close friend are not dealing with a serious illness, give thanks…

July 4th just around the corner. … Time for cookouts, homemade ice cream and watermelons.
