Checking on Sincere Smith, former East Bladen grad now in his second year with the NY Yankees. He is on the roster of the Gulf Coast League (short season) Yankees West team. Sincere had a couple of really good days recently. He was 2-for-3 with a home run and drove in four runs.

Speaking of minor leaguers … former Whiteville Wolfpacker MacKenzie Gore’s last outing was a dominating performance. He struck out 9 in 6 2/3 innings, gave up three hits and a walk, lowered his ERA to 1.12. This season he has pitched 72 1/3 innings, fanned 101 batters and walked 17. Opponents are hitting .138 against him. He has given up four homers and they account for almost half of the nine runs yielded this year. The 20-year-old left-hander is pitching for the San Diego Padres high Single-A Lake Elsinore team and is currently sporting a 7-1 record for the year.

Lots happening in the-good-old-summer time. Check our News, Sports and Events pages for more activities in the area. It’s a busy time in Bladen, despite the heat.
