Thoughts While Shaving
Spread the love

First things first … Yesterday my ‘thoughts’ included info related to US military working on athletic fields as part of their training at East Bladen High School, years ago … I failed to point out that the school is now Elizabethtown Middle…

Guess it’s what happens to senior citizens … I often refer to the old Western Auto, Fowler Simmons, Mann’s Department Store, Hutchison Drug, Bennett-Stone Pharmacy, Smith’s Drug, Belks, and on and on … At one time, all were located on Broad Street, Elizabethtown … Younger folks and visitors never heard of some…

The only 3 businesses on Broad Street that I recall when I settled here in the early 60s, still in business today are Leinwands, Melvins and Kinlaw Furniture … all located in the 100 block of West Broad Street … While on the topic … remember DeVane Jewelers, a couple of restaurants in the area including McGills … Bank of Elizabethtown, Corbett’s Mens Store, a couple of florist, Collier Gas, Coles Feed and Seed, Bladen Ace Hardware and Registers 5 & 10? I attempted to sell advertising to all while employed at WBLA … Oh yes, a grocery store near Fowler Simmons, IGA I think. One more, Mayor Cecil Edge’s Piggly Wiggly … There have been others over the years … I know, no different than many other small towns…

Frankly, I think the downtown Elizabethtown area is the most attractive small town anywhere around … Am I prejudice? … yep…

Positive comments and not so positive comments about changes at White Lake … more good than unfavorable … It’s going to be OK … White Lake is still White Lake … a favorite spot for many…

I enjoy an occasional drive through Bladen County … another yesterday and more on the agenda…

Seems more folks are on ‘edge’, touchy about most any topic … I choose not to share … attempt to stay in neutral…

A chance of showers and thunderstorms today. Partly sunny with a high near 87. Southwest breeze with gusts as high as 15 mph and a 40% chance of rain … more of the same tonight…
