Thoughts While Shaving

Thoughts While ShavingCharlie Daniel, 79, is one of three North Carolinians to be inducted to the Country Music Hall of Fame later this year.  Charlie has lots of family in Bladen County.  Years ago, you would see the CDB bus in the area during deer hunting season.  Others to be inducted include entertainer Randy Travis and Fred Foster, a label owner.

I know very little about how the NC Legislature works and I have no idea whether the recent legislation related to the use of bathrooms is good or bad.  The devil is always in the details.  What I do believe is that the NC Legislature has a habit, D’s and R’s, meet, burp, and vote.  A lobbyist friend told me years ago, making good laws is like making sausage.  Not pretty, but with the right formula, good results are the final product.  My guess is, very, very few legislators understood what was in the bill.  Good government works best when all are involved.  Seldom possible when members have seen it shortly before the vote.  Leadership problems, now and in the past.

My thought, it is difficult for legislators from Manteo, Reidsville, Lillington, Kings Mountain, Southport, Marshall, Chadbourn, Clarkton, Dublin, Deep Run, Tabor City and other areas of the state to solve all the problems for the metro areas including Charlotte, Greensboro, Winston Salem, Raleigh, Durham and Asheville.  Many of the problems are best dealt with by folks closest to the people served.  And, if they fail to act properly, easier to vote them out of office than folks from another area of the state, as in the legislature.

And for those who disagree with my ‘Thoughts’…So be it.  We do not have a vote anyway.
