The 2020 Primary Election is over and in Bladen County … the biggest surprise, so far as I am concerned, was the lack of interest in the election. … Of the 21,981 registered voters in the county, only 7,514 (34.15%) cared enough to cast a ballot.

Those 7,514 who did cast a ballot … produced no big surprises … one incumbent county commissioner seat will have a new occupant … more later.

Donald J. Trump and Joseph R. Biden were the primary winners in Bladen County and the state of North Carolina.

Check BladenOnline for details, also a complete, detailed report on the NC State Board of Elections site, county by county, every vote cast.

In the one local race where there will be a new office-holder, Bladenboro City Councilman Rodney Hester outpolled incumbent Daniel Ross Dowless 810 to 693. Both are Republicans and no Democrat filed for the position. The election is subject to review, as all are, by the Bladen County Board of Elections and winner in the General Election in November. Hester is a retired law enforcement officer. Dowless has served for many years.

In the Presidential election, Biden was the surprise winner in several states, including North Carolina. However, Bernie Sanders is the apparent winner in California defeating Biden 878,562 (32.7%) to 636,987 (23.8%) with 66% of the vote counted. In Texas, with 92% of the votes counted, Biden had 33.6% of the vote compared to Sanders with 30%.

President Trump was a big winner in all states with only token Republican opposition.

Michael Bloomberg appears to have spent big bucks for a few votes, compared with Sanders and Biden.

Early delegate totals favor Biden (452), Sanders (382), Elizabeth Warren (50), Bloomberg (44)

The 2020 political picture is being developed, one state at a time … Stay tuned…

“Nobody will ever deprive the American people of the right to vote except the American people themselves and the only way they could do this is by not voting.” Franklin D. Roosevelt

Every election is determined by the people who show up and vote.

“A vote is like a rifle; its usefulness depends upon the character of the user.” Theodore Roosevelt.
