Thoughts While Shaving
Spread the love

I enjoy thinking back to yesteryear, think of folks who survived with so little … seemed to get-by and enjoyed life…

Will not call names, but an older gentleman lived nearby … He had a few chickens, they must have been good laying chickens, means they laid eggs, he must have had a cow or two … He would go to town, ’bout 2 or 3 miles away, weekly … Sell eggs and butter along the way … There was at least one hitchin’ post in town, probably more, but he would take the money he made selling his products, visit one of the grocery stores in town … purchase what he and his bride needed, then head home … He seemed to enjoy his weekly trip … Best I could tell, he never seemed to be worried about much of anything…

As I grow older, wish I had a mule and wagon, a few laying hens and a cow or two … He did not appear to worry about anything … No concern about helpers, he needed none … No concern about either political party, not sure if he was ever concerned about who the president was. He had friends, he was in church every Sunday, was seated in the same seat, Sunday after Sunday. Bet he tithed, but don’t know that…

Just him, his mule, his chickens and a cow or two … Not sure if there was Social Security, no welfare, and if there had been, bet he would not applied for it…

Just a nice old gentlemen, perfectly content with what he had, what he could work out with his mule, his two hands…

We messed-up his world … Shame on us…

My older acquaintance never worried about running out of fuel … He had mule-power and will-power.

Check rainfall after a day long drizzle … Best I could tell, between a half and three quarters of an inch of rain … good, but need more…

Forecast for today, Sunny, with a high near 71 and windy. Mostly clear tonight, low around 48 … Sunny, with a high near 76 Friday … Next chance of rain, next Tuesday and Wednesday…
