Thoughts While ShavingJust hours prior to the 2023 White Lake Water Festival … Friday and Saturday … Party all day long and into the night … Fun time for all.

Mostly sunny today with a high near 88 and windy. Tonight (Tuesday) a 30% chance of rain and thunderstorms possible after midnight. Mostly cloudy with a low around 68 and windy, gusts as high as 17 mph. Wednesday, a 40% chance of rain … High temp near 83.

Looking ahead to Friday and Saturday … Partly sunny Friday, with a high near 79. Saturday, mostly sunny with a high near 85 … Good festival weather…

Sometimes my mind wanders back when I was a youngster in the Zion Hill Church area north of Bladenboro … a looooong time ago … Playing under a canopy of sycamore trees … Games included … Hop Scotch, Red Rover – Red Rover … shooting marbles, and, on Sunday afternoon … Friends would come, we would choose up sides and play baseball … Maybe 4 to 6 on each side. Good hitters could get on base without much of an effort…

We didn’t know about the issues all around the state, nation and world … We knew we were in wars, but unless someone in our area was killed … It was all miles and miles away … Out of sight, out of mind…

No TV, maybe an AM radio, that we could pick-up … WTSB in Lumberton, WENC Whiteville, WRRZ Clinton and, on Saturday night, with a little help, listen to the Grand Ole Orpy on WSM, Nashville, Tennessee. Lots of static, no FM stations around … We knew little about a war going on in a foreign nation … Probably better off not knowing … Do remember a local who was killed in action … took some time to receive a body for a funeral … Few TV stations and poor reception, whatever you could pick up with rabbit ears … Totally different today … Sometimes think we are on information overload…
