Thoughts While Shaving
Spread the love

Thoughts While ShavingSpent a day in Raleigh yesterday representing a retiree group, along with about 20 others from across the state.  My term as a lobbyist began early in the morning and ended by mid-afternoon.  Saw many friends that I had not seen in years, lobbyists and legislators.  Hopefully, the visit was worthwhile.

Parking is always a problem. Fortunately, I retired and left in the good graces of my former employer and was allowed to park in the lot where I parked for 25 years, about 3 blocks from Legislative Building.

What I discovered is, little has changed. Example: the budget process has not changed, just a different group behind closed doors working on details. The sun does not shine where the work is ongoing, like a sunshine law that applies to local governments. Same law, different application.

Many had a thought about HB-2. Some, rank-in-file in both parties, expressed concern that a law was passed for a problem that did not exist.

Rep. William Brisson and Rep. Ken Waddell and their support group welcomed us, as they always do.  Sen. Bill Rabon was holding a meeting in his office and unavailable, understandable, all have visitors and/or meetings, all day long.

The best part of the day was coming home. I realize many love the ‘hustle and bustle’ of the capital city. I prefer the slower pace in Bladen.

Politicians are the same all over. They promise to build bridges, even where there are no rivers.  Nikita Kruschchev

You can fool all of the people all of the time if the advertising is right and the budget is big enough.  Joseph Levine
