I think of my days in the National Guard, the Bladenboro unit … Some of my most memorable times were about cleaning weapons we never shot and scrubbing pots and pans while on KP … time at Fort Stewart, Ga, operating (driving) huge tanks … Standing in the back of a duce and a half, wearing a helmet, armed with a weapon … there and back … but nothing to shoot…
On my latest trip to Bladenboro, last week, saw where the old Hinson Super Market store had been leveled … I owe a lot to JZ and Sally Hinson … for giving me an opportunity to learn about retail sales. And, I learned about cleaning onion and potato bins, and helping others mop the floors on Thursday afternoons … back when merchants closed for a half day … before the big box stores came to town that are open 7 days a week…
