Thoughts While Shaving
Spread the love

Thoughts While ShavingBladen We Care’s Gala last night was another successful venture. Large crowd, good food, great entertainment and folks just having a good time. It is the last of two Annual Fundraisers by the group who provide support to Bladen County residents falling through the cracks in our medical health care system. They also offer nursing scholarships for local residents to attend BCC and UNCP who, commit to returning to the area. If you could not or did not attend the Gala or the Golf Tournament and would like to make a contribution to the cause, mail contributions to Bladen We Care, PO Box 1569. Elizabethtown, NC, and thanks for your continued support.

Today, the Elizabethtown Police Departments’ Kids Appreciation Day is being held on the lot behind the Municipal Building from 10 AM to 2 PM. Food, games, prizes, pony rides, face painting and bounce houses. In the past, and most likely today, youngsters have been allowed to sit in a police car and a fire truck and pretend they are operating. All area youngsters are invite as well as parents. It is a fun time and one of the highlights of the Police Department.

When I was a youngster, near Bladenboro, I could never imagine sitting behind the steering wheel of a police car.
Guess we became experts at creating our own toys, a short piece of a 2X4 wood that we pretended was a car or truck, pushing it along a dirt trail sometimes under the house. Do what you had to do to entertain. Maybe skip rope, hop scotch, shoot marble, play red rover, take turns riding a single bike (shared by several).

Know of a former high school athlete who, the further removed he/she is, the better athlete they become (in their minds)? I love reminiscing about yesteryear.

Speaking of yesteryear, Clarkton Blue Devil high school grads will be remembering yesteryear today at the school, their annual reunion for all years. Begins around noontime and stay as long as you like. Hope it is well attended.
Check our Events page for other activities and enjoy your Saturday.

Friendship is the hardest thing in the world to explain. It’s not something you learn in school. But if you haven’t learned the meaning of friendship, you really haven’t learned anything.

I really think tossin’ and turnin’ at night should be considered exercise.

The class reunion has been postponed another year……Everyone is still trying to lose another 10 pounds.
