Today is Veterans Day, a national holiday that originally began as Armistice Day on November 11, honoring all members of the U.S. armed services. It coincides with other holidays around the world, including Remembrance Day, marking the end of World War I on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918.

Banks are closed, Post Office’s are closed and many governmental offices are closed, however the Stock Market will be open … Thank a Veteran … They earned it…

Had inquiries related to Elf Angels, the local effort to provide Christmas for many youngsters who may not have Christmas, if not for this special effort by Debbie Heustess. Had a couple of locals tell me they sent their usual contribution and it was returned … Here is the situation … Yes, Elf Angels is still operating, bigger and better than ever. However, the old post office address has been changed. New Address … Elf Angels, c/o Debbie Heustess, 10578 South College Street, Clarkton, N.C. The goal is to make sure, as sure as they can be, to provide a Happy Christmas for youngsters who may not have Christmas unless someone assists … They prefer cash, used items are not accepted … Children deserve the best … Ms. Heustess has provided Christmas for many youngsters throughout the county for many years…

‘Bout had a belly-full of politics … Can we change the topic, please???? Both sides … none among us are perfect, despite what is said or done.

Changed my registration years ago, split ticket every election … only problem is both major parties solicit funds year-round, or so it seems. I treat them both the same…

Back to the topic of Veterans Day. Every year ’bout this time, I remember a young man I never really knew, a Bladenboro area man, David Guyton, who was killed in action in WWII. I visit his burial site once or twice a year … Never knew him, but he made the ultimate sacrifice and I kinda feel like he was family, even though he was not, best I can tell…

“In war, there are no unwounded soldiers.” Jose Narosky

“On this Veterans Day, let us remember the service of our veterans, and let us renew our national promise to fulfill our sacred obligation to our veterans and their families who have sacrificed so much so that we can live free.” Dan Lipinski
