Happy Thanksgiving … OK, a little early…

29 degrees at 5:45 AM … brrrrr cold. Forecast for today, sunny with a high near 54. North wind 3 to 6 mph … Winds could gusts as high as 18 mph. Clear tonight, with a low around 30, little to no wind. Thanksgiving Day, sunny with a high near 62 and southwest wind in the 5 to 7 mph range. Looking ahead, a 30% chance of rain Thursday night and Friday…

The turkey is in the oven, or will be soon and folks are traveling on the roadways, in the skies … Be aware of all around you.

Ever think back to some time in the past, maybe a very special Thanksgiving, maybe years ago? As a youngster, I mean a long time ago, dad would hook the mule up to the wagon and off to grandpa’s we would go … All our cousins would be there, mom would take food, other family members would bring food and granny would be busy preparing … After lunch, or maybe the following Sunday, off to our other granny’s … And she had tea cakes … delicious tea cakes … It was a fun time, my grandfather Hester was a praying man and he covered everything in his prayers … Precious memories…

Later we would ‘pile into a 35 Ford’ and make the same trip … Only difference was we were certain the mule would make the trip … later, we were happy when we arrived on time and no auto issues…

All our grannies are deceased, and have been for years. Come to think of it … I and my siblings are now the grannies in our families … I hope our grandchildren will remember these special occasions and hopefully leave a positive memory for their grandchildren to share…

Still not to late to help some person have a better day, because of your efforts…

“We are thankful for all who are present at this our feast as well as for all those who have labored in love in order to bring this dinner to our table,” writer and spiritual leader Edward Hays said in a 1979 prayer.

“All across America, we gather this week with people we love to give thanks to God for the blessings in our lives.” George W. Bush

“Gratitude is the inward feeling of kindness received. Thanksgiving is the natural impulse to express that feeling,” Henry Van Dyke wrote in his book Gratitude.
