Just one month left in 2019 … difficult to believe.

So, did you do any shopping on Black Friday? Apparently, nationwide … a good day for retailers and for shoppers.

Remember John McKissick? Older Clarkton High School Blue Devil fans remember him as their football coach in the early 50s when smaller schools played 6-man football. McKissick left Clarkton for South Carolina as a young man and was very successful coach in the Palmetto state. His teams won over 600 games. McKissick died recently at the age of 93.

Did you read recently about the death of Alelia Murphy at the age of 114? She moved to New York from North Carolina at an early age, according to published info. She was the oldest senior citizen in the US at the time of her death. Made a ‘feeble’ effort to determine what part of NC, but, no success.

Elizabethtown Christmas Parade on Sunday afternoon (tomorrow). Bladenboro will do the same a week from today (Saturday)

Filing for public office begins noontime Monday for local, state and national elections … including Bladen County Board of Commissioners and Board of Education. Also, state and national offices, including the 9th US Congressional office … yep, the one it took several elections to determine a winner, earlier this year. If you have an interest, think you have something to offer … go for it. Folks at the Board of Elections can provide info … stop by or call.

One advantage of growing older … you can have a serious disagreement with a family member or a friend, but, a few hours later no one remembers … next get-together … no mention of it. … Bad memory is not all bad.

SE Carolina Crossroads is one of Bladen’s hidden jewels … good work, folks assisting individuals who are attempting to kick a drug or alcohol issue. This Christmas season, why not make a contribution? Can be left at Bladen Baptist Association office near CVS in Elizabethtown … and if you have more slightly used clothing than you are using, especially warm winter clothing, donate them to Crossroads.
