Robert Hester, Founder of BladenOnline.comYesterday was an interesting day for this senior citizen … First, I received a call from a friend telling me that Derek Whittenburg was passing thru town and I was invited to come meet him … Remember Whittenberg? He was on the NC State basketball team, coached by Jim Valvano, that won the NCAA Championship … 1982-83 … He still looks fit … He is associate athletic director at NC State…

2nd surprise yesterday … Received a call from a stranger informing me I was the big winner in the Publishers Clearing House annual give-a-way … I was going to receive a certified check for $2.5 million and a new 2021 Mercedes auto … Said he was in Gressboro, NC, area, (Not Greensboro) that he was a pastor in that area and was associated with the organization that gives away big bucks for PCH … I smelled a ‘dead rat. Went along with it for a while … The call was from a 618 area code … and I needed to pay some taxes on the winnings … Told him I would meet him and probably have a law enforcement officer present and the conversation went ‘south’ … He was surprised I did not trust him … I then called Publishers Clearing House … they checked and said it was a fake call … as I expected … I have a name … but not THE name … apparently … Did not win, but did not lose … Interesting … Phone call came from some type phone bank…

Major League Baseball playoffs begin today … High school football tonight…

60 degrees at 5 a.m. today. Forecast for next few hours … Sunny today, with a high near 83 … Mostly clear tonight with a low around 57. Saturday, sunny with a high near 74 and breezy, wind in the 15 mph range. Looking ahead to Sunday, sunny, with a high near 73.

“There’s something very cute about Autumn. Cozy open fires, hot chocolate and marshmallows help to cheer up the darkest of fall days”

“Pumpkin spice and everything nice.”

“Fall has always been my favorite season. The time when everything bursts with its lasting beauty, as if nature had been saving up all year for the grand finale.” Lauren deStefano
