Thoughts While ShavingHurricane Mathew has departed the scene, however the storm’s lasting affect is causing pain throughout the area.

In Bladen, electricity is being restored, much remains to be done.  Checking the Four County outage map early this morning, indicates a good day yesterday for the company, however, 2,391 customers are still without power.  They have 10,755 member/customers in the county.

Duke Power’s website early today indicated 5,723 customers were still affected.  Estimated restoration for the area is Sunday, October 16, 2016.  A reminder, the websites of both utility providers are being constantly updated.

Lines at a limited number of places selling fuel brought back memories of gasoline shortages during the President Carter days.  Don’t think there is a shortage of product now, but a limited number of retail sites with the ability to pump the gas.

Electric power was apparently restored late yesterday in the downtown Elizabethtown area, maybe others.

Bladen and Robeson counties appear to be two of the counties most affected by the storm.

Travel to Lumberton has been nearly impossible and was told yesterday that transfer of patients from the local hospital to Fayetteville was impossible except by air.  Hopefully that has changed.

Had a relative attempting to drive to Elizabethtown from the western part of the state.  She reached Lumberton, spent hours stranded on the road, finally gave up, turned around and headed back west.

I needed to visit a friend in the New Hanover Hospital, after East Bladen High School, headed east on NC 87, down trees were few and far between and after crossing the Bladen-Columbus County line, very, very few.  It appeared to be business as usual in Wilmington.

Hopefully, NCDOT has a huge budget for repairs, I never recall seeing as much damage to this area.

Bladen County schools are closed for the balance of the week.

Shriners Fish Fry slated for tomorrow (Wed.) in Elizabethtown and Bladenboro.  The hours are 11 AM til 7 PM.  $8 per plate.

The Carolina Panthers are now 1-4.  Thoughts of a repeat trip to the Super Bowl may be just a dream.

Flashlights produce more light and won’t burn the house down.

Some people like to travel by train because it continues the slowness of a car with the cramped public exposure of an airplane.   Dennis Miller
