Thoughts While ShavingFour County EMC and Duke Power continue their efforts to restore electrical power to area residents.  Early this morning, Four County’s website indicates there are still 1,688 Bladen County members, or about 15.7% of those they serve, still without service.

Duke Power serves 8,796 customers in Bladen, 1,630 remain without service, according to their website.  The latest estimated restoration date for Duke customers is Sunday, October 16, 11:45 p.m.

Both companies continue their dedicated service to the area.  When you consider all the damage following Hurricane Mathew, utility employees and their contractors deserve our thanks.

Local EMS service has been stretched.  There are now ‘out of county’ ambulances assisting Bladen County EMS.  You may see units from Catawba, Union, Lincoln or Cabarrus assisting in transporting to the hospital, plus a medical bus from Brunswick County.

We have a list of ‘damaged’ roads and their condition on this page.  Ken Clark, NCDOT, and Bradley Kinlaw, Bladen County Emergency Manager continue to do a good job of keeping us updated.  There are so many roads in the county in need of repair, it will take weeks, maybe months, to complete the job.

Vineyard Golf Course lost some trees and despite a good drainage system, still has water on the course.  More later.

Shriners Fish Fry scheduled for today has been cancelled.

Schools are closed for the remainder of the week.  East Bladen High School still available as a shelter for those that need the service.

Will this be the year of the Cubs in major league baseball?  They are on their way to the National League finals.

Several dates to remember related to the upcoming election.  Voter registration for the November 8th election ends Friday, October 14, 2016.  Early voting begins Thursday, October 20 and ends Saturday, November 5.  Sample ballots are available on the Bladen County Board of Elections website.  Questions should be directed to the local elections office located at 301 Cypress Street, Elizabethtown, NC or call 910-862-6951.

Food Lion employees from western Virginia were stocking shelves and working the check-outs at the E-town location yesterday.  Still many shelves were bare.
