No idea about results, but the fundraiser Friday for Michael “Mike” Thaggard Jr. appeared to be a success … Thanks to all for your support.

A fundraiser for Crystal Buffkin, a local wife, mother and teacher at Lumberton High School who has been diagnosed with Moerech-Woltman Syndrome, also known as “Stiff Person Syndrome” is planned … According to a recent report, Crystal is currently at an in-patient rehab hospital where she is receiving assistance with daily living … A fundraiser is set for Friday, October 29th … Check a bulletin on our news page for additional info…

Hold-on … redistricting is underway for all 100 counties in the NC Legislature … Over the years Bladen has not always fared well … Democrats had Bladen in a district that ran from the Virginia line to near the South Carolina border … Republicans currently have a portion of Bladen in a district with portions of Mecklenburg (Charlotte) … should begin to see and hear more shortly…

Halloween is about a week away … Trick or Treat … cute little ones come calling … as well as Beast Fest in Bladenboro next weekend…

Municipal elections continue … Early voting currently underway for most towns in the county … Check with the Bladen County Board of Elections for more info…

And, a salute to Bladenboro Mayor Rufus Duckworth, named ‘Outstanding Lumber River Council of Governments Board Member of the Year’. He is not seeking re-election after many years in local government…
