A reminder to members of the Elizabethtown-White Lake Chamber of Commerce. You are invited to attend a special lunch meeting at noon today hosted by Cape Fear Valley Bladen County Hospital to celebrate their Open House. Guest speaker will be Mark Cobb, Hospital President and Special Guest is Mathew Register. … Lunch provided by Southern Smoke.

Attended the 60th Annual Four County EMC meeting last night in Kenansville. Good meeting, great entertainment provided by The Wilmington Celebration Choir, minus Ed Tatum, who recently suffered some broken bones in an auto accident. Ed usually sings ‘Long Black Train’. He reportedly is recuperating nicely, just takes time. Choir was in rare form. NOPE, didn’t win the pickup or anything else, but overall, enjoyed the meeting.

Driving home from Kenansville in the 8 to 9 p.m. time frame … keep thinking I could see a deer or a bear most any time. Concern was didn’t want to meet either…

Another co-op meeting is planned for November 9th at the Sampson County Agri-Expo Center. The 60th annual Star TMC meeting … more later but lunch will be provided to member/owners. The New Dove Brothers will provide entertainment, and the Starlights may return for the occasion. More later.

Rural America depends on electric co-ops and telephone co-ops, nationwide. Our forefathers deserve much credit….

Weather???? Glad you asked, Mostly cloudy, high near 78. Northerly wind 6-12 mph, with gusts as high as 21 mph. Tonight, mostly cloudy, with a low around 63. Northerly winds around 10 mph, with gust as high as 18 mph. Sorry, no rain in sight over the next week, and we do really need it.

Without rain, my weeds are dying and the grass is not growing. … First frost usually around the end of October or first few days of November.
