Thoughts While ShavingThe weather folks have promised rain and wind today, and as early Saturday morning, we are receiving both. The National Weather Service is expecting high winds today, for areas of Bladen County, in the range of 50 MPH from shortly after noon to near midnight and 100% chance of rainfall over the same time period, until near midnight tonight.  Rainfall amounts, up to 10 inches.  The rain should be ending around 8 AM Sunday.

As of early Saturday morning, (about 6:20 AM) a Tornado Warning was issued for Bladen County.  More could develop. Continue to monitor the weather.

Stay safe and pray our electrical service is not interrupted.

I am old enough to remember other hurricanes including Hurricane Hazel.

Hazel and Mathew, neither good company.

On pretty days, my mom would attempt to keep 6 eager youngsters busy working or playing outside.  When we had little to do, we played hopscotch, skip the rope, Red Rover, Hide & Seek.  If we did not behave, there were chores to do.

On rainy days the games were limited, of course, games like monopoly, checkers or jack rocks were a few, of many games, designed to keep us busy.

Thinking of my mom, one of her often used words was “momick”.  Probably not in Webster’s dictionary.  Someone would ‘momick up’ something meant they messed it up.  Haven’t heard that word in a while.

Barbara Walters is the successor to Charles Osgood on the CBS Sunday Morning news show beginning this tomorrow. In a recent interview, Walters was ask about making a comeback in her 60s.  Love her reply, “gives life purpose.”  I love that.  Don’t we all need purpose in our life?

It rained so hard that even the frogs stayed indoors.

It’s a gully washer.

Notice that the stiffest tree is most easily cracked, while the bamboo or willow survives by bending with the wind.  Bruce Lee
