I watched the first half of the Titans/Broncos NFL game, hoping to see rookie Larrell Murchison, but gave up at halftime, lost the battle to sleep … Turns out he was moved to the inactive list prior to the game … Titans won 15-14 on a late field goal. Next game, at home against Jacksonville for their home opener.

Pretty day yesterday … Should be more of the same today … Sunny with a high near 80 and a northeast breeze 8 to 10 mph.

Work underway tearing down the old bridge over Cape Fear River on US 701 near Elizabethtown … Come back in 2 or 3 years when a new 4-lane bridge should be complete … Bridges near Tar Heel and NC 11 east were rebuilt a few years ago…

Lots of money flowing from DC and Raleigh to upgrade our phone/internet systems … even more so now with students using the system more than ever with schooling from home. Star TMC, serving Bladen and Sampson counties, have received $25 to 30 million, some complete, and more is ongoing … In Bladen, fiber has been installed on NC 210 from Pusey’s Store, north to near the US 701 intersection, Cooley road area near Colly Chapel Church and a loop near Oak Grove FWB church between Bladenboro and Elizabethtown. All funded by state grants. The feds granted nearly $28 million for specified locations in both counties. Star matched with $8 million. The project should be completed in 5 years, hopefully less. Star will still need another $25 to $30 million to complete the upgrade … At least the process is underway.

I have mentioned William McGirt, PGA pro who has undergone a couple of hip surgeries in recent years. The former Fairmont Golden Tornado is back on the circuit … Played last week, had 3 pretty good rounds, not so good on Saturday … finished near last but picked up about $13,000. He has won about $10 million since turning pro several years ago, including a win at the Memorial Tournament (Jack Nicklaus’s tournament) in Ohio…
