Years ago, in fact 51 years ago, someone shared info from a meeting of one of our then civic club meetings … Al Haemer, Veedor Root CEO, was president of the Elizabethtown Kiwanis Club … Members were asked to share their thoughts of what changes would be made in the local area … over the next 5 years … to April 1975…
I will not identify those making comments … but will share their thoughts … Three members agreed that the ‘abundance of natural resources in Bladen County would be a contributing factor to the growth of industry in Bladen County and would, of course, stimulate the growth of present recreational facilities in the Bladen Lakes area’…
Another member indicated ‘that there would be a rapid growth in agriculture, continuing in the direction which agriculture is now moving, that is toward larger farms and incorporated farming. He also indicated that agriculture would remain the number one industry in Bladen County but would employ less people in the future.’

A reminder of Solid Waste hours of operations for Monday, September 6 – Labor Day. All convenience sites will be operating on their normal hours … 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. … however the transfer station will be closed in observance of the holiday … Normal operations resume on Tuesday, September 7…
