Thoughts While ShavingPolitical activity continues to increase in the area.  Today, Lara Trump will be in Bladen, on behalf of her father-in-law Donald Trump.  She will be at Cape Fear Farmers Market in Elizabethtown, at 2:45 p.m. today.

The deadline for registering to vote in the Nov. 8th General Election, is Friday, October 14.  All questions related to the election should be directed to the Bladen County Board of Elections.

The Bladen County Board of Commissioners has never had a white female member.  There have been white female candidates, but none were unsuccessful.  This year, there are two such candidates, Pamela Benton (D) is seeking one of three at-large positions and Ashely S. Trivette (R) is attempting to represent District 3 on the Board.

There have been two African-Americans on the Board of Commissioners, Dr. Delilah Blanks has served for many years and Margaret Lewis-Moore also served prior to her untimely death.  Ophelia Munn-Goins is running unopposed to replace Dr. Blanks, who is not seeking re-election.

The first African American to serve on the board was Byron McNeill, Clarkton businessman who was elected in the late 70s or early 80s and served at least a couple of terms.

The various ballots for Bladen elections are on-line, kinda complicated with three districts and 6 at large commissioner candidates.

High school football tonight, Midway at East Bladen and Union will play at West Bladen, both conference games.

The racing program at Dublin Motor Speedway for this Saturday night has been cancelled due to the death of a family member of track promoter Richard Bailey.  Sammy Davis died Thursday evening.

ABC stores in Garland and Havelock have closed, according to published reports.  Wonder if there is less drinking, or if more are driving to the store in the next town to make their purchases.
