Coach Bob Lewis will be at Leinwands in Elizabethtown Saturday, ’bout 9 a.m. for an hour or so autographing his new book about his football coaching days that began at East Bladen in the early 70s, lasted for several years and included a 3A state championship … Lewis later coached at Pender High, Harrells Christian Academy, Whiteville for a short time, may have missed a stop or two. His most successful stop was in his home town of Clinton … His teams won several state championships and he had several players who were stars in the NFL. He is a member of the NCHSAA Hall of Fame … Now in his upper 70s, he has written a book about his career, and he will be signing books and greeting friends Saturday morning at Leinwands. One of North Carolina’s great high school coaches and it all began at East Bladen … Everyone is invited, encouraged to attend … Not just one of the state’s most respected high school coaches, but greets everyone as if they are his long time buddy … and he is…

Understand it will last about an hour or so…

When we were broadcasting football games on WBLA/WGQR, I looked forward to going to Clinton … Knew we would be welcomed by Coach Lewis, but if the local teams were not prepared, they were in for a butt-kick’n … Coach Lewis was one of the best…

Former West Bladen star is expected to start on the Auburn U offensive line Saturday. Brandon Council, who was a 3 sport athlete for the Knights, transferred to Auburn with 2 years of eligibility remaining. He is big bad dude at 6-4, 325 pounds and one of the nicest young men ever to play anywhere … He started 8 games for Akron U, graduated with a degree in Sports Management, had to sit out a year due to injury, thus his 2 years of eligibility remaining… #8 Auburn entertains #23 Kentucky at 12 noon Saturday. Look for #71, Brandon Council, from Tar Heel, NC.

Bladen County High Schools, East and West, have produced, and continue to produce some great athletes, good, decent human beings … and no one covers the sports better than our own John Clark … can converse about today’s stars and all the way back to the … mmmm, maybe not back to the stone ages, but since the 60s … maybe earlier.

Slipped up on a group of former Bladenboro Bulldog athletes recently … sharing a meal and tale tells….

Today’s weather forecast … Mostly cloudy, with a high near 78 … very little wind and no rain…
