Thoughts While ShavingPowerful storm Irma is on a path that could hit the Miami, Dade County area of Florida this weekend with 20 inches or more of rain, high winds and storm surge that could cover the area. Current info indicates our area could be spared the worse, Irma could take a more western direction, even as far west at Tennessee. However, the storm’s direction can change. Stay tuned.

A brief reminder of the Bladen County Law Enforcement Center Dedication and Open House at 10 AM today at the site on Smith Circle, across the street from the Ag Center. Everyone is invited.

NFL season underway. Last night the Kansas City Chiefs scored 21 points in the 4th quarter to defeat the New England Patriots 42-27 in the season opener.

The Major League Baseball season is coming to a close, PGA playoffs are underway and the 2017 NASCAR season ends in a few weeks.

High school football tonight. How do I know? John Clark told me so. Fairmont plays at West Bladen and East Bladen travels to play long-time rival Whiteville. Kick-off for both game is 7 PM. Best bang for your buck, if your are looking for entertainment. Both Bladen County teams are 2-0.

In other local sports action, Men’s Soccer, 4 PM match, West Bladen at North Brunswick. Last night, East Bladen soccer team beat Scotland 10-0 to remain undefeated.

West Bladen’s ladies tennis team downed West Columbus 8-1 Thursday and East Bladen ladies topped St. Pauls, 6-3.

And, if you missed it, the Knights football team was the WWAY-TV Team of the Week and East Bladen’s Xavier Wooten was named the WWAY-TV Player of the Week.

I was hoping Ms. Irma would curve northeast, back into the ocean, not likely based on current info and while I wish no bad storm on anyone, it does not bother me, that it now appears we may not be drastically affected. Stay tuned!
