Spread the love

Thoughts While ShavingVolunteers had a very successful day raising money to assist Alvin Butler in hopefully returning to a more normal life, well, as much as possible. His home and belongings were recently destroyed by a fire and his wife of many years died in the blaze. Yesterday, friends and neighbors raised funds to assist, last report about $16,500 was raised. That could change. Builders in the area have indicated, if supplies are provided, they will rebuild his home, no cost for labor. If you could not attend yesterday’s event and would like to make a donation to the cause, bet you can mail or deliver contributions to Bladen Baptist in Elizabethtown. One volunteer commented, “thanks to all who participated, we helped a good man.” Folks from several churches in the area were involved in yesterday’s function held at Center Roads Baptist Church. Help for Mr. Butler, and no doubt for the entire community as well.

Early voting continues all next week at locations in Elizabethtown, Bladenboro, East Arcadia and Dublin. Hours vary, check the Bladen County Board of Elections website. In fact, early voting continues until Saturday, May 4. The primary election will be held Tuesday, May 8 at all usual locations in the county.

Mother nature is keeping us in suspense, warm weather, then cold, windy, typical April weather. Weeds grow, lawns not so much. Trees are turning various shades of green, in preparation of summer. The forecast for today is abundant sunshine, a little windy with highs in the low 70s. Heavy rainfall is in the forecast for Monday night and Tuesday.

As a youngster plowing behind a mule or horse (we had one of each), rain on a workday was always welcomed. A day off, never thinking that when the rains ceases, we had to double-up to catch-up. A fact of life.

No doubt a better week ahead, if it begins today by attending church.
