DUNN – Sophomore Laila Smith and senior Maegan Burney from East Bladen and West Bladen senior Rylee Chadwick have been named to the All-Southeastern Athletic Conference Girls Basketball team.

East Bladen’s Lalia Smith

Smith averaged 17 points, 8.4 rebounds, 3 assists and 2.2 steals per game for the Lady Eagles, who won the SAC-7 Tournament championship and advanced to the second round of the NCHSAA playoffs. The 5-10 sophomore recorded 11 double-doubles including 25 points and 16 rebounds in the tournament championship win over St. Pauls.

Other Smith highlights included 30 points and 18 rebounds in an early win over Whiteville; 27 points and 9 rebounds in the season finale at St. Pauls; 25 points, 16 rebounds and 6 assists in a win over West Bladen and 16 points and 12 rebounds in a playoff game at Northeastern. She scored in double-figures in 22 of her 27 games.

East Bladen’s Maegan Burney

Burney averaged 10.4 points, 4.2 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 2.2 steals. The 5-10 senior scored in double-figures in 14 games, highlighted by a season-high 26 points in the playoff game at Northeastern as she connected on 10 of 14 shots. She also rang up 25 points in an early season win over South Columbus.

West Bladen’s Rylee Chadwick (20)

Chadwick averaged 15.5 points and 6 rebounds per game for the Lady Knights. She scored in double-figures in 19 of West’s 22 games and scored 20 or more points in 5 games. Chadwick’s season-high 24 points came against Red Springs, and she posted a double-double of 18 points and 11 rebounds versus Clinton. She also turned in identical 21-point, 7-rebound performances against Fairmont and Midway.
