BLADENBORO – Senior Lexie Corrothers poured in 13 of her game-high 21 points as West Bladen raced to a 29-14 halftime lead en route to a 53-39 victory over Fairmont Monday night in the opening round of the Three Rivers Conference Girls Tournament.

Corrothers threw in 4 baskets, and senior Seniah Johnson tossed in 2 field goals as the Lady Knights built a 12-6 first quarter lead. Corrothers fired in 2 baskets and a free throw in the second period.

Senior Kasee Singletary sank 2 free throws and 2 field goals, Johnson popped in a basket and a free throw, sophomores Hannah Pait and Haley George dropped in a basket each, and senior Mikayla Meadows hit a free throw for the 29-14 lead.

Singletary and Johnson connected for a basket and a free throw each in the third quarter, and Corrothers added a basket to keep the margin at 37-23.

Corrothers pumped in 2 baskets and 2 free throws in the final period. Meadows worked the paint for a field goal and 2 free throws. Singletary and Johnson cashed in 2 free throws each, and Pait netted a basket.

Johnson followed Corrothers on the Lady Knight scoring list with 12 points, Singletary finished with 9 points, and Meadows totaled 5 points.

Sophomore Destiny Melvin led the Lady Tornadoes with 14 points, and Paris Bethea and Georgianna Waters added 7 points each.

Coach Brian McCleney’s Lady Knights improved to 15-7 on the season and will play top-seeded St. Pauls Wednesday at 6 p.m. in the girls’ tourney semi-finals at East Columbus.
