Three Rivers Girls Tennis Tournament Opens

ELIZABETHTOWN – West Bladen senior Alyssa Smith, two Lady Knight doubles teams and one East Bladen doubles team advanced to the semi-finals of the Three Rivers Conference girls’ tennis tournament Wednesday.

Smith posted a 6-3, 6-2 first round victory over St. Pauls’ Vanessa Zavala Cruz then advanced to the semi-finals with a victory over Fairmont’s Ashton Turner by a 6-2, 6-3 score. Smith will play South Columbus’ Addison Jacobs in the semis.

East Bladen’s Lily Lin and Alyssa Futrell received a first round bye in the doubles tournament then posted a 6-2, 6-2 victory over South Columbus’ Jones & Todd. The Lin/Futrell team will play South Columbus’ Gore/Cribb in the semi-finals.

The West Bladen doubles team of Autumn Brisson and Autumn Bell received a first round bye then defeated East Bladen’s Carlie West and Heather Hardin to advance to the semi-finals.

The Lady Knight team of Marley Fletcher and Courtney Hester claimed a first round victory over Higgins/Soles 6-2, 4-6, 10-6 then defeated Fairmont’s Lauren Barnes and Mikiyah Hunt 6-6, (7-4), 7-5. Fletcher & Hester will play Brisson & Bell in the semi-final battle of two West Bladen teams.

The Lady Eagle team of West/Hardin defeated St. Pauls’ Evelin De la Cruz/Justine Dukes 6-2, 7-5 in their opening round match. The West/Hardin team is still alive for a regional berth and will play Fairmont’s Barnes/Hunt Thursday.

East Bladen’s Gracyn Martin lost her opening round match to Fairmont’s Cambyl Scott 6-3, 6-4. Teammate Jayden Willington lost to Fairmont’s Turner in the first round. West Bladen’s Elizabeth West lost her opening round match to Whiteville’s Parker.

Play in the tournament will resume Thursday at 11 a.m.
