Three Things to Know for January 17

Here are Three Things to Know for Friday, January 17:

1. After a week off because of midterm exams, high school basketball teams return to the court today. East Bladen is home against Whiteville and West Bladen plays at Fairmont in Three Rivers Conference games. Junior varsity girls’ games start at 4 p.m. followed by JV boys, varsity girls and varsity boys.

The East Bladen boys are 2-9 overall and 1-6 in conference play. West Bladen is 4-9 overall and 1-6 in conference play. The East Bladen and West Bladen girls are tied for second in the Three Rivers Conference with 6-1 records. East Bladen is 11-3 overall and West Bladen is 8-3.

2. The Unity In the Community bikers celebration begins today with a Meet-N-Greet bonfire at 7 p.m. at 1360 Martin Luther King Drive in Elizabethtown. The weekend event will end with bikers riding in Monday’s Martin Luther King parade in downtown Elizabethtown. (STORY)

3. Great Bald Eagle. 10 a.m., Saturday, Jones Lake State Park. outdoor event. Join a park ranger to discuss the history, life cycle and habits of the bald eagle. Free. Information: 910-588-4550.
