Here are three things to know for Saturday, Jan. 4, 2020.
1. The Bladen Church Basketball Youth Leagues begin play today at Dublin Primary School. Games are set to start at 9 a.m. The final game is set to tip at 2:15 p.m. Games involve boys and girls from Pre-K to sixth grade.
2. All About Bears. That’s the program planned today at Jones Lake State Park. It starts at 2 p.m. at the Visitor Center. The park is located off N.C. 242. Join a park ranger for a discussion about Jones Lake’s largest mammal — the black bear. The program is free. Information: 910-588-4550.
3. Bladen County property taxes are due by Monday. A 2% penalty will be assessed beginning Tuesday. Tax Administrator Renee Davis said about 76% of taxes had been collected as of Thursday. Taxes can be paid by check, credit card or debit card. The tax office, which is located adjacent to the Bladen County Courthouse in Elizabethtown, will be open Monday. The phone number is 862-6730.
