Three West Bladen men’s soccer players – Victor Lopez, Johnny Dominguez and Angel Martinez – have been selected to the All-Three Rivers Conference team. The Knights finished third in the Three Rivers Conference this season with a 7-6-1 league record

Lopez, a striker, was the Knights top scorer with 14 goals and was in the top five for goals throughout the season in the conference.

“I can’t say enough good things about him,” said West Bladen Coach Phillip Turnage. “He is not only a top notch player, he is also a top notch student with a solid 4.2 GPA. Victor led by example the entire season. Fortunately, he is a junior so we will have him back next year too.”

Dominguez, a sophmore, sparked the Knight defense from his sweeper position. “Johnny played with heart and determination in every game,” said Coach Turnage. “He came up big in important times, saving several games for us. He was a team captain and a true master of his position.”

“Johnny has the respect of his teammates and they routinely listened to what advice he had to give them,” continued Coach Turnage. “In some ways, he was a player-coach on the field of play. Fortunately, we will have Johnny back next year too.”

Martinez was credited with 224 saves in 16 games and allowed less than 3 goals per game. “Angel was the best goalkeeper in the conference in my opinion,” said Coach Turnage. “He performed admirably throughout the season. He is a multi-sport athlete that just has an intuition about where the ball was going. He too will be back with us next year.”

Four more Knights received Honorable Mention honors. They included freshman striker Joseph Masaid, freshman winger Keni Verdugo Gomez, junior midfielder Chris Frank and senior defender Fernando Carranza.
