CLARKTON – For two Clarkton Town Board members, the waiting continues.
Incumbent Commissioner Lawrence McDougald and Jimmy Hudson Sr. are tied following Tuesday’s election with 25 votes each.
“If after the vote canvassing on Tuesday (Nov. 10) it is still tied, it will have to be decided by a ‘lot,’” said Shaw.

She added that during her time as director there has not been a similar situation.
Shaw said that in the event of a tie, it will most likely be broken by a coin toss.
“I’ve had winners by one vote, but I’ve never had to do it by lot,” said Shaw.
The Board of Elections will meet at 4 p.m. Friday, Nov. 6, to review the provisional ballots. Shaw said that there were five total provisional ballots in the county and one of those provisional ballots was cast in

Clarkton and if it is determined the provisional ballot stands, then that could potentially make the difference in the outcome of the race.
She said that once the provisional ballots are reviewed Friday, the board will have a better idea of the results.

“It is a possibility we could have them (McDougald and Hudson) come in during the vote canvassing,” said Shaw. She added that if the vote totals are still the same following the vote canvassing, the board could then go forward with determining the winner. All election results are unofficial until the completion of the vote canvassing.
