WASHINGTON – Yesterday, U.S. Senator Thom Tillis (R-NC), Vice Chairman of the Senate Judiciary Subcommittee on Border Security and Immigration, attended a hearing with the Acting Deputy Commissioner for U.S. Customs and Border Protection present, Ron Vitiello, and called for securing the border from a humanitarian perspective.

“This is a humanitarian crisis regardless of how you feel about border security,” said Senator Tillis. “These are people crossing the border illegally who are dying. And they’re dying because we don’t have the right mix of people, technology and infrastructure in place to have the situational awareness where we can apprehend them and save them. I feel like before we start solving the broader problem that we would get to what’s outside the scope of this committee, we ought to talk about ending the humanitarian crisis and the growth of the problem by providing Border Patrol Agents all with the resources that they need to secure it.”
