A video about an encounter at the Cross Creek Mall in Fayetteville is going viral as you read this article. The video is of a Facebook user, Adrienne Nichole Holland, detailing an experience she had this past Sunday, April 22nd, which left her and others puzzled and concerned.
The video describes a unnerving situation in the Cumberland County shopping complex. Two women approached Holland as she and her four year old son went to the pretzel shop in the mall. “Have you heard about the prophecy, God the Mother?” the ladies asked Holland. One of the women appeared to be Asian in her late 20’s or early 30’s and the other stranger was American in appearance with a messy bun, according to Holland.
The two strangers could not talk Holland in to giving them her contact information or much of her time. After she was able to step away from the two females, Holland said she searched God the Mother and found it is associated with Human Sex Trafficking. Holland said in her video, “So everyone knows this is happening in Fayetteville, at Cross Creek Mall. Be aware of your surroundings and watch out for yourself.”
I spoke with Holland today and she said she has been researching the Mother of God since yesterday. Holland explained in some of her research there are online accusations, though not proven, of sex trafficking being linked to Mother of God ministries.
Holland did say she reported the incident to the mall security and to the police today, Monday, April 23rd. In her post she said, “Police report has been filed. If you have had an experience like this or have one in the future call the police department immediately. Also contact Crime Stoppers. Fayetteville police front desk number is 910-433-1529. Crime Stoppers number is 910-483-8477.”
After some investigating ourselves, we have found conflicting articles. Several online sites we have found state the God of the Mother is a religious group wanting to expand their ministry. However, we do know from news reports that sex trafficking is happening in the Cumberland County area.
Not to forget to mention in other news this weekend, Actress Allison Mack has been charged with sex trafficking. According to news sources, the actress from the show, “Smallville” would use her background to lure victims in to a cultlike group called Nxivm in which women were branded and used for sex.
Therefore, as a precaution, use these tips to keep yourselves and others safe.
1 – Always be actively aware of your surroundings. Pay attention to where you are and who is around you.
2 – Keep your eyes and ears open. Don’t walk around with headphones on so loud you can not hear what is going on around you. Put your headphones and phone away.
3 – Before going to the parking lot have your keys available in your hands. While you put your bags away, keep a close watch surveying vehicles and people around you.
4 – If you think you are in harms way, dial 911 and put your phone on speaker.
5 – If you find yourself under attack, remember your main goal is not to fight, but to get away. Make as much noise as you can. Scream as loud as you can, “FIRE!” Use your keys as a weapon and if you have access to your key fob and are close to your vehicle, sound your car alarm.
6 – Fact check information. If you are out somewhere and someone is talking to you about a new ministry, organization or opportunity, don’t believe what you hear before you investigate it for yourself.
7 – Do not go any where with a stranger.
On Monday, Holland told us, since she has published the video on her Facebook page, she has receive numerous messages from other women stating they were approached in the same manner at the Cross Creek Mall, the Walmart and Home Depot on Skibo Road in Fayetteville. Holland also said women with small children are who are being targeted.
Holland also gave some tips to stay safe. She said there are emergency features on the Samsung phone and there are a lot of apps you can download to help keep yourself safe.
According to the reports we have found, there is no verifiable proof God the Mother is directly related to sex trafficking. However, if you feel unsafe, trust your gut and seek immediate assistance.
