Spread the love

By Cara Beth Lewis

Artists are important, and their work is important. They beautify the world around us with their talent, they depict events of the past and present, and they tell stories. Art has no limit, and it can be whatever the artist desires. Today, we celebrate artists, their work, and their contribution to the world in honor of International Artist’s Day on October 25th, 2021.

The word “artist” describes so many different creators — painters, photographers, writers, singers, sculptors, dancers, potters, poets, actors, musicians, and the list goes on.

Merriam-Webster Dictionary defines the word artist in several different ways:

  1. “a person who creates art (such as painting, sculpture, music, or writing) using conscious skill and creative imagination”

  2. “a skilled performer”

  3. “a person who is very good at something”

  4. “one skilled or versed in learned arts”

Art shared stories, depicted history, communicated ideas, and recorded significant events long before written language. The National Day Calendar says, “Artists record our history, indelibly. They also unearth truths. Through their work, they tell stories and pass on traditions. Artists have a unique way of connecting to the people around them. In a world full of bad news, one of their most important roles is to offer messages of hope.”

Art is everywhere we look, and without artists there would be no art. Thank an artist for their talent that they share with the world today, in honor of International Artist’s Day.
