Today, (Monday, April 2) is World Autism Awareness Day which is set aside to spotlight the challenges faced by someone with autism and their caregivers. This is a day to bring together organizations, hospitals, researchers and universities to assist with research and increasing understanding of autism. Today is World Autism Awareness Day.

In 2007, the United Nations adopted a resolution dedicating April 2nd as World Autism Awareness Day. Autism affects both boys and girls of all races around the world and it is increasing in the number of individuals diagnosed with autism each year.

Many organizations will have panel discussions, art exhibits, and other activities to bring awareness to autism.

Here locally, Gibbs Helping Hands an organization which helps to build awareness for Autism will be having an event on Monday, April 2nd, at the Family Lewis Building in Elizabethtown, NC on Martin Luther King drive at 2 p.m.
