ToddPaitBladen County native Todd Pait is returning home to take over the head coaching reins of the football program at West Bladen High School. Pait was approved by the Bladen County Board of Education last Monday.

“I’m super-excited,” said Pait who has been the defensive co-ordinator the last two years at Sycamore High near Nashville, TN. Before that Pait was the defensive coach at Clarksville Academy in Clarksville, TN.

The West Bladen job became vacant earlier this year when Russell Dove resigned to take the head coaching job at South Columbus.

Coach Pait, a 1999 graduate of Bladenboro High School, played football at Appalachian State University, and was the junior varsity football coach at West Bladen for the 2003 and 2004 football seasons.

Pait joined the United States Army and served 11 years primarily with the 101st Airborne. He served three tours in Iraq and received the Bronze Star for Valor. Pait began his military career in the infantry and came out with the rank of Captain.

Coach Pait received his undergraduate degree from Austin Peay State University in Clarksville and plans to complete his Masters degree in May.

“It’s great to be able to coach where I played,” said Coach Pait. “Back where I watched Richard Howell and Russell Dove play and dreamed of playing like them.”

As for his plans for the West Bladen program, Pait says, “We will probably move from the Wing-T and go with the Pistol on offense, but we will stick with the 4-4 on defense. The first order of business will be to find a quarterback.”

Pait will be joining his brother, head basketball Coach Travis Pait on the West Bladen staff. Todd Pait and his wife Brandy have three children: Summer, age 8; Chase, age 5; and Ryder, age 9 months.
